Obituary of Dorothy Laverde Kelly
Sadly, our beloved Dorothy passed away on Tuesday April 14, 2020 at the age of 94 years. Her transition at 5:40 pm was very peaceful after a sudden, brief illness. Her strength and determination will live on as an inspiration in the lives of her family and friends that she touched over the years.
Dorothy was born and spent her early years south of Chinook, Alberta. When she was a young girl the family moved to a homestead at Tofield where they farmed. Being the oldest girl of a large family Dorothy became a second mom to the younger children, it was just second nature, because of her loving ways to care and look out for them. When she was twenty she found herself back in Chinook staying with relatives and helping with their young family. What was supposed to be a brief stay took an unexpected turn when she caught the eye of Harold Kelly (Ole) and the rest is history. They were married in Cereal on October 18, 1946, it was a marriage that lasted 59 years.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Ole, infant daughter Shirley and daughter Merrilee.
She will live on in the hearts of her sons, Terry (Sadie) and Dean; grandchildren Kelly (Amy) Bignell, Darcy (Stephanie) Bignell, Christopher (Eve) Kelly, Brandi Kelly, Erin (Cory) Rogers, , Kristen Kelly and Jessie Kelly; great-grandchildren Deanna Kelly, Calub Hutton, Draydn Barton, Maddox Bignell, Jaxon Bignell, Xaiden Bignell, Cash Barton, Rian Barton, Degan Rogers, Nanton Bignell and William Bignell; brother Ernie (Liz) Peterson and sister Norma Andersen; sisters-in-law Pat Kelly and Judy Kelly and very special friend of 47 years Linda. Dorothy touched the hearts of everyone who knew her, all her extended family and multitude of friends will have cherished memories of her beautiful soul.
Special thanks to the staff of Agecare Glenmore who took such excellent care of Dorothy in her final years and Tracy LaRocke from Compassionate Care who developed such a special bond with Dorothy during the last three years of her life. We have gratitude for all those caregiver and the tireless work they do.
A memorial service of remembrance may be held at a later date.
