Obituary of Margaret Mary Maude Walker
Peacefully and surrounded by her family, Margaret passed away on Monday October 28, 2024 at the age of 82 years. She was born on October 2, 1942, in Ottawa, Ont. The oldest of 3 children to Earl and Eva Owens.
She will be remembered by her son James (Kim), her grandsons Maddock and Talon, sister Laurel Stanton, sister-in-law Shellie Owens, nieces and nephews; Ryan (Jen) Scarlett & Cole Stanton, Adam (Karolyn) Halle & Ava Stanton, Katie (Matthew) Stanton, Amy Owens and Casey Owens as well as extended family.
Margaret was predeceased by her infant grand-daughter Baileigh Rose, brother Tom and parents Earl and Eva.
Growing up, Margaret was known to be a beautiful child, so much so that The Bay wanted her to model for them. Unfortunately, her parents wouldn't allow this. At one point, she tried to run away to become a nun. However, her parents came and brought her back home.
Although she was always very thin and beautiful, she lacked the confidence to truly show her beauty. Her comfort became when she sang in various choirs and acted. She joined Orpheus productions in Ottawa, and started to shine. Here she was in her element and got to sing and act.
In the summer of 1969, Margaret met Robert Walker at a friends cottage in Lac Ste-Marie Quebec. The following year, they were engaged and got married in 1971. Shortly after their wedding, they boarded a liner in New York and sailed to Marseilles France. These are years she fondly talked about and always wanted to return. However, in 1972, she returned to Ottawa, pregnant with her only son James. Although the union of Margaret and Bob didn't last, she was happy with her son.
Margaret worked for many years as a bookkeeper for various companies before making the move to Calgary after the passing of her parents. Looking for a fresh start on life. Here she worked again as a bookkeeper, and other various jobs, before her health changed. In her later years, she enjoyed going to the Kirby Centre. She found a group of friends that she often played cards with, did yoga, swimming and lots of shopping.
Margaret loved to keep things. You wouldn't see her without a ziplock bag full of sugar packs, tea bags, ketchup, mustard, Kleenex, you name it, she probably had it, and most of it from Wendy's where she was frequently.
Margaret’s last few years since COVID has not been as kind to her. This is when her health started to decline and she moved from her apartment to assisted living before moving to Mayfair Care Centre.
A graveside service will be held on Tues November 5th, 2024 at Edenbrook Funeral Home in Calgary, Ab 24223 Township Rd 242.
