Lucille Doreen McLaughlin
January 20 th , 1958 – August 10 th 2024

Lucille McLaughlin, 66, of Oyen, Alberta passed away at the Foothills hospital on August 10th , 2024.

Lucille, known to all who loved her as “Luci”, was born at the Oyen hospital to Arthur and Hazel Chaplin. She was the youngest of three children, with an older brother Ed and sister Connie. She attended Oyen Public School and South Central High School in her young years in Oyen.

Luci met the love of her life, Peter McLaughlin, in 1979 and their long history began that day. They fell in love, got married and started a family and along came their two sons, Daniel and Aaron. Their life grew in Oyen and they cherished their memories camping at Capt.Ayre and Shorncliffe Lake, raising their boys in their small community amongst close friends and family.

Luci worked numerous jobs in Oyen until she settled working at the Oyen hospital for 30 plus years. She retired in November of 2020 and months later the family welcomed an energetic bundle of joy to the family named McKenzie, “Max”. Granddaughters Max, Kaedyn and Amerie brought Luci many laughs, stories and smiles. Among Luci’s loves were music, gardening,
baking, watching sports and her dear friends and family. A few of her closest friends include her childhood bestie Pat Carroll- Churchill, friends Daryl and Debbie Yake, RB, Janice Carr and many more cherished friends and family to note.

Luci is predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Hazel Chaplin, daughter Melanie Quinn, mother-in-law Stella McLaughlin and close friend Gerri Vanstone.

She is survived by her husband Peter McLaughlin, son Daniel McLaughlin, his partner Charlene Carlson, and grandchildren Kaedyn Botham, Amerie Botham, and McKenzie McLaughlin. As well as her son Aaron McLaughlin and his wife Chelsea. Luci also lives in the memory of her
sister Connie and her family: daughter Sarah Crutcher, her husband Steve and their sons Jeremy and Felix, son Greg Bosch, his wife Angela and their son Cosmo. Brother Ed Chaplin, and his wife Reta: their children Bill, Clint (Victor, Isla and Addison) and Garry. Luci will also be dearly missed by her extended McLaughlin family: Frank and Sheila McLaughlin, Anne-Marie McLaughlin, Jo-Anne McLaughlin (Doug), David McLaughlin (Jody), Maureen McLaughlin (Steve) and many nieces and nephews.

At Luci’s request there will be no service.

Pete and the family deeply appreciate the kind support and messages of sympathy that have been sent.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that you donate to STARS Air Ambulance in Luci’s memory.

Pete, Danny and Aaron would like to personally thank a few people and organizations who played important roles in this dark time. We would like to thank the Oyen hospital staff, STARS air ambulance, the ICU staff of the Medicine Hat hospital, the ICU staff of the Calgary Foothills hospital as well as Pam at the Oyen Funeral home.
