Obituary of Terry Devereux

William George Terrance Devereux “Terry” William George Terrance Devereux, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on August 7th, 2024 at the Big Country Hospital in Oyen, Alberta.

Born in Cereal, Alberta on January 17th,1936, Terry was raised on the family farm and homestead that was originally established by his father, George Devereux, in 1913. From an early age he developed a strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to family values, qualities that would define his life and legacy.

As a dedicated grain and cattle farmer, Terry had an intimate relationship with the land that nourished his family. He poured his heart and soul into his work, finding fulfillment in the seasonal cycles of farming life. His passion for agriculture was matched by his adventurous spirit; he loved opportunities for travel, especially to Las Vegas, where the thrill of playing the Flaming 7’s and Buffalo machines brought him boundless joy.

Terry’s love of his life and best friend Linda, was the cornerstone of his life. Together they built a family founded on love, laughter, and shared experiences. Their relationship was characterized by deep mutual respect and companionship, making each moment spent together all the more precious.

An aficionado of good company and conversation, Terry was the life of any gathering. His charisma could light up the room, as he loved sharing a drink, particularly his favorite Crown Royal whisky. His ability to tell tales and share hearty laughter endured him to all who were privileged to know him. Terry’s warmth and generosity extended beyond the confines of his family, leaving a lasting impact amongst his friends and community.

Terry leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience through his wife Linda and their three daughters: Lori Leblanc (Claude), Lynn Devereux (Nevin), and Tara Reeves (Jim).

His grandchildren, Amanda, Kristal (Christopher), Tanya (William), Zach, Zenah, Alexia (Christian), and Kaleigh (Tawfiq).

As well as his great grandchildren, Malachi, Issiah, Nevaeh, Amiyah, Josiah, and the “apple of his eye" Rosie and sister Coleen Woody (Del).

Terry was predeceased by his cherished daughter, Monica Irene Devereux (1974), his parents George Devereux (1980) and Monica Devereux (1994). His sisters Theresa Devereux (1936), Kathleen McDowell (1999), Rosalind Lubky (2014) and his brother and dear friend Michael Devereux (2007).

The family expresses its deepest gratitude to all the nurses and physicians who provided professional, kind and compassionate care for Terry.

A prayer service will be held on Friday, August 16th, 2024 at 8:00 P.M., with a funeral service to follow on Saturday, August 17th, 2024 at 11:00 A.M at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Oyen, Alberta.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Oyen and District Health Care Foundation in Oyen, AB, in Terry’s honor, ensuring that his legacy of compassion and care continues to benefit others.
