Ben was truly one of a kind. I admired him as a long-time friend of the family. He helped move building with my Dad for a while and shared the role of watching out for me. Throughout the years I referred to him as my former babysitter.
His birthday and mine were three days (and a few years) apart. As the story goes, the moving crew may have been still celebrating Ben's birthday when I was born. The party continued a few more days. He often said I was the 'women' who got him drinking! ;-)
I was so lucky to have Ben share with me many stories about my Dad and their antics, especially adding to what Jim Campbell wrote in his series of books about Oyen and my Dad's involvement in a particular fire.
When we brought Fred back to Oyen Extended Care in October I could always count on Ben for a smile and a conversation. He would 'wheel' past Fred's room and ask "How's our boy today!"
I am so grateful his family allowed me to share a bit of time with them on Ben's last birthday. What a special time. Ben will always hold a special place in my heart.

Sadly, Big Stone has lost another pillar of the community. As a kid, I remember Ben being so involved in the gymkanas that my brother and I loved at attend. As I got older, I appreciated how he always had time to chat and visit. I remember him as such a kind and cheerful man. Sending our deepest condolences to the Lockhart family.

Our deepest condolences to Bens family. He was a great guy. When driving around town he would drive up the driveway when he saw us in the yard, always smiling and commenting on how nice the flowers looked. Wanting to plant some just like them. Enjoyed his visits. Gordon also has great memories of him . Says he was one of the good old boys. He will be truly missed by all that knew him
