Obituary of Johnny M. Hagens

John (Johnny) Ferdinand Theodore Manfred Hagens, March 31st, 1942 – Nov 27th, 2019 It is with profound sadness that the family of Johnny Hagens announces his sudden passing on Nov 27th, 2019. They take solace in the fact that he literally did what he loved to do, right up to the very last second of his life. Johnny will always be remembered for his witty humor, passion for ranching, and his love for his family. Johnny knew at a young age that ranching was his calling as he was constantly by his father’s side; learning initially, but very quickly guiding the ranching choices. Despite being so focused on the farm Johnny still found time for other interests involving his fundamental small community values. Johnny played sports, was active in local politics, enjoyed singing and acting in the local drama club, and recently spearheaded the latest version of our New Brigden history book. Although he cherished his time on his farm, Johnny’s friends were never far from the forefront of his mind and he often shared detailed stories of the times he had spent with them. When it came to his family Johnny was a man of action; he showed his children each and every day how much they were loved. He supported everything they did, even if he didn’t always fully agree with their choices. Johnny always saw the best in his family and was a fierce defender of them. Johnny is predeceased by his parents (John and Tina Hagens), Carol’s parents (John and Vivian Levick), and brother-in-law “Abby” Jackson. He is survived by his wife Carol Hagens along with their children; Tammy Compagna (husband Tom and their children, Nicole, Kelsey, Claire), Jackie Niwa (husband Trent and their children, Savannah, Jory), Derek Hagens (wife Melanie and their daughter Lily), Dana Duchscherer (husband Jason and their children, Triston, Mackenzie, Kailey), and Kendra Hagens (her children Christian, Vivian, Conner); sister Maryanne, brother Erwin (Carol) and several nieces and nephews. “You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” ~ Joe Lewis
